Please take a moment to read this. It explains what the content on this site is, and just as importantly, what it is not. By accessing or using this site, you acknowledge that you have read this disclaimer and accept it.
In short: everything on The ISA Millionaire is for general information and education. It is not financial advice, it is not a recommendation or an invitation to buy or sell anything, and it does not take account of your personal circumstances. Investing carries risk, and the value of investments can go up and down, so you can get back less than you put in. Always do your own research, and if you are unsure, speak to a regulated financial adviser.
The rest of this page sets that out more fully.
This is not financial advice
I write about ISAs, investing and building long-term wealth to help people understand the subject. That is all it is: general information and education. It is not personal financial advice, and nothing on the site is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any particular investment, fund, platform or product.
I do not know your income, your goals, your other savings, your debts, your tax position or your appetite for risk, so nothing I write can be tailored to you. Only advice that takes account of your own situation can do that, and that is not what this site is.
I am not regulated
I am not a financial adviser, and I am not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. I am an individual sharing my own understanding and experience. I am not permitted to give you personal financial advice, and I do not. For advice on your own situation, you need a qualified, regulated adviser, you can find one through the FCA register.
Not a financial promotion or an offer
Nothing on this site is a financial promotion, an inducement, or an invitation to engage in any investment activity, and nothing on it is an offer or solicitation to buy or sell any investment or to use any particular product, platform or service. Where I mention a type of product or how something works, I am explaining it, not promoting it or recommending that you use it.
Investing carries risk
Investing is not the same as saving, and it is not risk-free.
- The value of investments can go up and down, and you can get back less than you put in.
- Past performance is not a guide to future performance. What has happened before is no promise of what will happen next.
- Different investments carry different levels of risk, and higher potential returns generally come with higher risk.
If you are not comfortable with the possibility of losing money, or you may need the money in the short term, investing may not be right for you, and again, a regulated adviser can help you weigh that up.
No guarantees or promises
Nothing on this site is a promise of any particular outcome, return or timescale. I cannot promise you will make money, reach any figure, or achieve financial independence, and anyone who does make you that kind of promise should be treated with caution. What I can do is explain principles, share how things work, and be honest about the risks. What you do with that is your decision.
About the name
The ISA Millionaire describes a destination: the idea of a £1 million tax-free ISA, and the financial freedom it can represent, built by an ordinary person over the long term through discipline, patience and consistency. It is the goal the approach on this site is aimed toward. It is not a promise that you, or anyone, will reach it, and reaching it is never guaranteed. It is a direction of travel, not a certainty.
Do not rely on the content
You should not rely on anything on this site as the basis for a financial decision. Any reliance you place on the content is at your own risk, and I do not accept responsibility for decisions made in reliance on it. Before you act on anything you read here, check the current facts for yourself and, where the decision matters, take proper regulated advice.
Figures, examples and the rules
Where I use figures, such as the ISA allowance, they are correct at the time of writing and can change, because they are set by the government and HMRC. Always check the current numbers at gov.uk before you act on them.
Where I use examples or illustrations, for instance to show how compounding can work over time, they are simplified illustrations to explain an idea, not forecasts or guarantees. They usually assume a steady rate of return that real investments do not deliver in a straight line, and they are shown before the effect of charges, inflation and any tax that applies outside an ISA. Real results will differ.
Tax
Any comments on tax reflect my general understanding of the rules at the time of writing. Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and can change. ISA rules, allowances and the tax benefits attached to them are set by the government and HMRC and may change in the future.
This site is written for a UK audience
The ISA is a UK product, and everything here is written with UK residents in mind. If you live outside the UK, or are taxed elsewhere, the information may not apply to you and may be wrong for your situation. Please take advice local to you.
Accuracy and availability
I work hard to keep the site accurate and up to date, but I cannot guarantee it. The content is provided “as is” and “as available”, and I make no warranty that it is accurate, complete, current or suitable for any particular purpose. Information can go out of date, and I may change or remove any part of the site at any time.
My liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I exclude all liability for any loss or damage, whether direct, indirect or consequential, including any investment loss or loss of profit, arising from your use of the site, from your reliance on anything on it, or from being unable to use it. Nothing in this disclaimer limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
The book
My book is an educational book, written in the same spirit as this site. It is not financial advice either, and buying or reading it does not create an advisory relationship between us. Everything on this page applies to the book as well.
Your decisions are your own
By using this site, you accept that any financial decision you make is your own responsibility, and that you use the information here at your own risk. If a decision matters to you, please take proper, regulated advice before you act.
Contact
If anything here is unclear, or you would like to talk about the ideas on the site, email me at hello@theisamillionaire.com. I am always happy to talk about the subject, though, as above, I cannot give you personal financial advice.
